About the event

Balance the emotional, mental and physical load in your household by spending a weekend with your partner and a professional counselor, Certified Fair Play Facilitator, and Certified Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapist Vanessa Knight. Each couple will receive materials and printable Fair Play cards to create a customized deck for your own household. If you have never read Fair Play, the book, that's ok!

Spend a weekend of intensive learning about stopping conflict patterns in romantic attachment relationships (Emotionally-Focused Couples work, Hold Me Tight by Sue Johnson, PhD) and the Fair Play Method (FPM) for managing household labor, based on the bestselling book Fair Play by Eve Rodsky. You'll receive 9 hours of professional time with Vanessa Knight, LCPC, NCC, CCMHC at a fraction of the cost of 1:1 coaching or counseling time and walk away with a fire hose of knowledge, resources, ideas, and encouragement! Additional 1:1 support after the intensive is always an option if you and your partner get stuck or want to continue the journey in customized sessions exclusively for your household.

Here's the plan:

  • Each evening evening at 5:50pm Central, sign in, have dinner and get comfortable, and settle in.
  • Saturday evening officially begins at 6pm Central Time. 6-9pm will cover communication patterns in conflict that drive negative emotion and keep the Method from getting started in the first place, as well as a basic introduction to the "why, when, and how" of the FPM.
  • Sunday evening officially begins at 6pm Central Time (6-9pm). Sunday's content is all about implementing the FPM while working through the realities you face together.
  • Monday evening officially begins at 6pm Central Time (6-9pm). On Monday, we will use the evening to have practical application as a group to get input on snaffoos and fails, and how to fix them while maintaining connection and respectful, loving communication.

Note about Diversity:

This workshop is for couples and addresses domestic equity in the home, with or without kids. Because of historical societal norms, these issues will most often show up in heterosexual relationships between CIS-gendered men and women. However, the balance of mental, emotional, and physical labor is applicable to corporate environments, chore management with kids, LGBTQAI+ couples+, groups of volunteers, and any other relationships that require equitable division of labor. This workshop will focus on traditional gender norms and balance in hetero couples. Others are welcome to attend with this understanding! All are welcome.
