Based on books by the award-winning author Julia Cook, this class will address big feelings of anger that come up for everyone, what is happening in the brain, ways to contain it and how to express it well! Lessons will include integrations of reading, math, science and social skills. Kids will be encouraged at this class to develop relationships with each other, so that they can recognize one another at other AnySchoolers classes and event. Lessons use art activities, labs, group discussions, games and sensory exercises.
20% discount for AnySchoolers.com website subscribers
$95 for first child (includes all six weeks, no individual date registration allowed). $90 for additional children in household. All are welcome to register! AnySchoolers has NO MEMBERSHIP requirement. Counselor is donating 30% of all class proceeds to AnySchoolers (a 501c3 educational charity organization). Class fees include all supplies/labor/space. No additional costs (please see parking below).
AnySchoolers is for any schoolers. We encourage involvement with families who enjoy non-traditional learning, hybrid school, full time homeschool, and anything in between. We encourage children who used to homeschool and now are in traditional classroom settings to continue their relationships with nontraditionally schooled friends. Any schoolers are welcome. We believe learning happens everywhere.
This location has a kid-friendly, family-owned Tex Mex restaurant in the building lobby. Across the street is a deli, a bakery and a coffee/sandwich shop!
Snow Days:
In the event that any of the class dates are deemed Snow Days and class is canceled, the classes will be made up on February 27th and March 6th. Refunds will only be issued for 3+ days. Please reserve these two extra dates in your calendar!
Here's the instructor's full bio: https://www.securecounselingclinic.org/vanessa
Vanessa Knight has homeschooled four chldren for over nine years, with four years of public school prior to that! A Texas native, Vanessa has lived in the urban Kansas City area since 2003 with her husband, four children, Labradoodle Nalu, Aussiedoodle Rontu, and Great Dane Sven (also a flock of chickens, two barn cats, a bearded dragon, and a fish named Poe). She spends free time with her family: rehabbing an 1880s Victorian home, urban farming, and creating lovely things (music and art mostly), attending theater shows, and traveling together! Vanessa has worn hearing aids since early childhood, experienced early parental death, has walked through cancer scares, and lives with chronic immune illness, giving a unique understanding of suffering. Outside of clinical work, she is the founder and volunteer Executive Director of a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit. Working with Vanessa is an experience of "warmth" - cozy, casual, and a bit spicy at times. Vanessa is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NCC). Vanessa is licensed in both Kansas and Missouri, as well as provides coaching nationally to residents anywhere. She is a nationally Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC).
