About This Course
Sometimes a couple has every intention of being equitable about domestic labor, but falls into an "accidentally traditional" gendered labor division, particularly in heterosexual partnerships, but also in same-sex relationships. Internalized gender roles and norms are not dependent on what type of partner you are attracted to. In the thick of life, the communication pattern can be conflicted and contentious when these topics come up, causing escalation. This is a course provided by the Fair Play Policy Institute, enhanced and sponsored by clinician Vanessa Knight for this platform. Stop here: Sometimes even the basics are too much to digest when tensions are so high that you and your partner cannot have a safe conversation about the labor that is happening in your home. There is a self-study program for couples (or an individual member of a couple) about both tracking and slowing down the cycle of conflict between partners before starting the Fair Play Method. If you believe you need to establish safety in your communications together before beginning the Fair Play Method at all, the pre-FPM conflict cycles course will cover conflict cycles and help you identify them in your own relationship. This course (Household Labor Balance: Basics of the Fair Play Method) will introduce you and your partner to the Fair Play Method developed by attorney Eve Rodsky, so that you have a structure to work from and customize to your household to achieve more balance, less resentment and less "kicked up" conflict. The structure and written content are provided by the Fair Play Institute to Certified FPM Facilitators, then disseminated through individual platforms.
